Frequently Asked Questions

Portable Dust Collector FAQs

How do I choose the right portable dust collector for my machine?

Start with the machine type, number of extraction points, required airflow, and the resistance of hoses, ductwork, and filters. Dust type, available space, and power supply also affect selection. If you do not know the airflow, send us the machine specifications or photos for an initial model recommendation.

What is the difference between the SD, ST, SG, and SGS series?

The SD series is a pulse-jet industrial dust collector commonly used for localized machine extraction. ST models cover medium-to-high-pressure collection, while SG units focus on high-vacuum suction with pulse-jet cleaning. SGS high-vacuum units use manual or model-dependent mechanical cleaning. The best choice depends on both airflow and suction requirements.

How much airflow and suction pressure do I need?

Airflow depends on the extraction point, enclosure, dust generation, and required capture velocity. Suction pressure must overcome resistance through the inlet, hose, ductwork, and filter system. Maximum airflow and maximum negative pressure are separate equipment ratings, so model selection should be based on the expected operating point.

Are SD series dust collectors available with wheels?

Yes, wheeled configurations are shown for SD equipment in the supplier's earlier product catalog. However, mounting and mobility can differ by model and production configuration. Please tell us if you need a mobile unit so we can confirm the appropriate caster and base arrangement before quotation.

Do all portable dust collectors use automatic pulse-jet cleaning?

No. Applicable SD, SG, and other pulse-cleaning models use compressed-air pulses to clean filter surfaces. SGS and BS configurations use different manual or mechanical cleaning arrangements, while SW wet-type units operate differently from dry-filter collectors. Cleaning methods and compressed-air requirements should be checked for the selected model.

Can these dust collectors be used for laser cutting, grinding, or CNC machines?

They can be considered for many localized extraction applications, but the equipment must match the process. The SK series is designed for sheet-metal laser cutting applications, while SD or high-vacuum models may suit certain CNC and grinding operations. Dust composition, sparks, heat, and combustible-dust hazards must be assessed before choosing the system.

Can a portable dust collector handle combustible dust?

Some applications may require specially engineered dust collection and protective equipment. Combustible dust needs a project-specific hazard assessment addressing ignition sources, explosion protection, isolation, grounding, and applicable regulations. A product described as explosion-protected, including the SG(W) series, should not be assumed to meet a particular certification without verification.

How often do filters need to be cleaned or replaced?

Service intervals vary with dust loading, particle characteristics, operating hours, filter media, and the cleaning method. Check filter condition, system suction, and pressure drop where available. Replace damaged or ineffective filters as needed. Wet-type systems also require their own liquid and sludge maintenance procedures.

What details are needed for a model recommendation and quotation?

Please share the machine or process type, dust material, number and size of suction connections, required airflow or suction pressure if known, voltage and frequency, available installation space, and destination country. Photos, videos, or machine drawings are helpful. If some values are unknown, send the information you have and we can start the selection discussion.
